A collaboratory provides a co-creative stakeholder engagement process for solving complex problems. The Hub’s international and interdisciplinary team comprised four collaborative laboratories ('collaboratories') conducting place-based work in four countries:
The reach of our research programme created opportunities for worldwide information gathering and sharing, and our collaboratory structure offered the perfect platform for cross-country collaborative research and cross-cutting interventions. Cultural and knowledge exchange is central to the implementation of a systems approach: the integration of local and indigenous knowledge with academic and technical science is fundamental to improving decision-making for equitable and sustainable water management. In each location, our teams worked across multiple scales with a variety of stakeholders, from sub-basin and mesoscales, up to regional and national scales, informing basin and national policies.
