Building knowledge, skills, and capacity among researchers and stakeholders is required for the effective implementation of water security solutions. Through a continuous, iterative process of research, engagement, and innovation, we improved the overall quality of water security research and leadership. However, increasing the capacity of our stakeholders to access, integrate, and use data is equally important for the effective and sustainable delivery of innovations. The process for strengthening the capacity (attitudes, skills and knowledge) of our researchers and stakeholders is one of incremental change that begins with changes in awareness and leads to changes in knowledge and skills. Importantly, these steps lead towards a change in capacity that generates changes in the practices and processes of our stakeholders. This, ultimately, can support decision-makers, improve environmental stewardship and response to human health risks, and amplify the actions and voices of communities.
